Young entrepreneurs at Teesdale School out to prove they've got a head for business

A GROUP of Year 8 pupils are out to prove they've got a real head for business.
The eight-strong team from Teesdale School, Barnard Castle, have formed Wacky Woollys for a county-wide competition.
With the help of mentor Judith Porter, from Chilton-based Hydram Engineering, the youngsters decided to base their business on the production and marketing of woolly hats.
It is part of the Future Business Magnates competition which puts the 12 and 13-year-old would-be entrepreneurs through a series of challenges, from building a team and developing and marketing their idea to giving a presentation in front of a panel of judges.
The Teesdale School team is one of 24 in County Durham taking part in the competition, which aims introduce students to the concept of running a business and broaden their knowledge of different job roles within an enterprise.
Pupil Adam Parker said a host of suggestions had been put forward at a brainstorming session before the group plumped for hats.
“We chose hats because it was something that fitted in with the amount of time we have, which is only a few months, and it fits in with the theme of Made in Durham, sold to the world.”
The final presentation will take place at Thorn Lighting, in Spennymoor, in June.
