A MEMORIAL has been unveiled this morning outside Steel House, Redcar to honour union boss Geoff Waterfield who led the campaign to bring steel making back to Teesside.
In August 2011 Mr Waterfield, who chaired the multi-union at Teesside Cast Products, died aged just 43.He had headed the Save our Steel marches that caught the eye of bosses at Thai firm SSI who went on to buy the mothballed plant.
Mr Waterfield's son Wills relit the blast furnace last April.
Wills and his mother Sheryl Petite unveiled the steel sculpture that marks Mr Waterfield's instrumental place in the story of Teesside steel making.
