POLICE are trying to trace the owner of a First World War medal.

The medal, in the name of Pout, was found by police during an unconnected house search in Gilesgate, Durham City, in late December.

It was with other war memorabilia, including cap badges and a selection of old coins from a number of different countries.

Police seized the items.

Those living in the house said the items had been found in a field nearby.

Police have made numerous enquiries to trace the medal’s owner, but have proved unsuccessful.

PC Sarah Douglas, from the Priority Crime Team at Durham City, said: “We’re very keen to return these items to their rightful owner, particularly the medal.

“The items are worth very little in terms of cash, but they will be of great sentimental value to the owner.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Durham Police on 101.
