Women rescued from River Ouse
11:10pm Wednesday 6th February 2013 in News
TWO women have been rescued from the banks of the River Ouse in the centre of York.
The pair, who were understood to have been drinking, were said to have been hanging in a “precarious position” on the river bank at Queen’s Staith, earlier this evening (Wednesday, February 6).
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service sent its water rescue unit to the scene near Ouse Bridge, after receiving reports of the two women, at 7.51pm.
The women were eventually helped from the side of the river by officers, though crews continued to search the area with high-powered torches before leaving the scene.
One is believed to have suffered a broken leg after falling into the water.
