FORMER Durham Regatta Chairman, John Bell, has died.

"He moved to Bedford and founded Bedford Schools Rowing Association before moving on to Africa.
"He has lived in Durham in retirement, first working for a year or two as rowing master at Durham School and then becoming involved in junior coaching and a little masters rowing with Durham ARC.
"John was awarded a Queens Diamond Jubilee medal by British Rowing last year."
Club secretary Barry Hudson said: "John will be missed, amongst many other things, for his searching wit and wisdom. Our deepest sympathies go to Sue, their three sons and wider family."
