WORK inspired by a world-renowned Saxon Princess find has been exhibited by international textile artist Isobel Hall at Kirkleatham Museum.

Her work, including an evening bag and scallop shell box, is to be displayed at the Redcar museum until April 7.

The retired teacher, who shares time living in Guisborough and southern Spain, has a passion for ancient art.

Stunning artefacts from the Saxon Princess burial in near Loftus, in east Cleveland are now on show at the museum. Archaeologists discovered rare jewellery in 2007 at Street House Farm, at a Royal grave.

A scallop shell is depicted on the best known jewellery belonging to the princess and it was this that inspired Isobel.

Influences from the North York Moors can also be seen in the 68-year-old’s distinctive work. The exhibition features bags, boxes, vessels and handmade books as well as wall art.

Some items on display are from previous collections, made to illustrate her published books.

She said: “Items are made from a variety of materials and one of them is based on Gisborough Priory and cenotaph.”
