Mother and six children have lucky escape after car collides with central reservation near Darlington

A MOTHER and her six children had a lucky escape after the people carrier they were travelling in crashed through a central reservation on the A1.
The woman, thought to be aged 34, was travelling in a silver Vauxhall Zafira with her children, aged between four months and 12-years-old, when the car crashed on the A1 between junctions 58 and 59, near Darlington, in County Durham.
A Durham Police spokesperson confirmed one of the children was airlifted to the James Cook University hospital by the Great North Air Ambulance.
The other children and their mother were taken to the same hospital by road ambulance.
Ambulance, police and fire and rescue workers attended the scene of the accident.
It is understood that none of the casualties were seriously injured, with some
sustaining whiplash or other minor injuries.
The north and southbound carriageway was closed to traffic following the crash, which happened at around noon today (Tuesday, January 29), however both lanes are now fully reopened.
The northbound carriageway was closed for just under two hours while Durham Police carried out an accident investigation and the car was removed from the carriageway. The route was fully open at 1.50pm.
