A CALLER who rang murder investigators but hung up is being urged to call again.

Football memorabilia seller John Roberts, 32, was found dead at his home in Winlaton, Gateshead, on Sunday, December 16.

The man rang Northumbria Police’s contact unit at about 6pm on Saturday , January 26, and asked to speak detectives about the murder.

Police believe the caller may have information that could help the investigation.

Detective Superintendent Roger Ford said: "The man called us wanting to pass on information but hung up before we got chance to speak to him.

"I want to make a direct appeal to this man to contact us again and pass on anything he knows.

“He can ring completely anonymously if he wishes and doesn't have to give any personal details.

“We purely want to find out if he knows anything that could help us with our enquiries.

"We've had a good response from the public and have made an arrest in connection with this investigation.

“I'd continue to urge anyone with any information, no matter how trivial they think it is, to get in touch as soon as possible."

On Tuesday, January 22, officers arrested a 27-year-old man in connection with the murder.

He has been bailed pending further enquiries. Anyone with any information is asked to contact the major crime team on 101, extension 69191, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800-555-111.
