Workman finds body in Whitby house

A WORKMAN carrying out renovation work to an empty house discovered a body inside.
The body was found this afternoon at the property in Whitby.
A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said: "Officers attended a derelict property in Broomfield Terrace, Whitby, shortly after 2pm on Saturday, following the reports that workmen carrying out renovation work had found a body. On arrival officers found a body which appears to have been in the property for some time.
"The death is currently being treated as unexplained.
"Enquiries remain ongoing to establish the identity and cause of death to establish if there are any suspicious circumstances.
"A scene guard is currently in place.
"While police enquiries are ongoing, we urge people to refrain from speculating about the incident.
"We are not likely to be in a position to have further updates for several days. However, we will keep you updated with any developments."
