ARMED police called to reports of a man making threats found him in possession of a toy cap gun.
Officers were called to Mowbray Road, Sunderland around 6pm tonight (Friday, January 25) after they were told a man was threatening staff at a residential centre.
"Officers arrived and a 22-year-old man was arrested at 6.15pm in possession of a toy cap gun," said a spokesman for Northumbria Police. "He is being questioned on suspicion of possession of an imitation firearm. Nobody was hurt."
Although firearms officers attended the scene, unarmed officers made the arrest.
Insp Craig Gardner said: "While we understand people living nearby may have been concerned at what they saw, police were quickly on the scene and a man arrested without incident."
Anyone who saw a man making threats around Mowbray Road shortly before 6pm should call police on 101 ext 69191.
