This was the scene on the A19 at 8.20 am today - crash between Norton and Billingham on the southbound carriageway saw the road closed and Police turned the traffic around and back up to the A689 turn off. 

It also stopped The Northern Echo's sports editor Nick Loughlin from getting to Portsmouth to report on Hartlepool's League One game after he was stuck for 90 minutes.

NORTH Yorkshire fire and rescue save couple from snowdrift after they spend two hours trying to dig themselves out at Egton. Allege recovery services refused to come.

NORTH Yorkshire Police say A59 now closed between Harrogate and Skipton due to hazardous conditions at Hopper Lane.

COUNTY Durham fire and rescue say Cornsay accident happened at 3.13pm. One appliance and an officer in a 4x4 attended and the four people were taken to a safe place to recover.

THE road between Guisborough and Whitby has been closed as a number of cars are trapped by the adverse weather.

TWO cars have gone into a snowdrift between Inkerman and Cornsay Colliery, near Tow Law, County Durham. Four people are believed to be involved though there are no details on injuries.
