Return of the snow brings travel problems to North-East (From The Northern Echo)

This was the scene on the A19 at 8.20 am today - crash between Norton and Billingham on the southbound carriageway saw the road closed and Police turned the traffic around and back up to the A689 turn off. 

It also stopped The Northern Echo's sports editor Nick Loughlin from getting to Portsmouth to report on Hartlepool's League One game after he was stuck for 90 minutes.

NORTH Yorkshire fire and rescue save couple from snowdrift after they spend two hours trying to dig themselves out at Egton. Allege recovery services refused to come.

NORTH Yorkshire Police say A59 now closed between Harrogate and Skipton due to hazardous conditions at Hopper Lane.

@IncidentsTEES reports A19 between Teesside and Thirsk particularly bad due to the snow. Reports that speeds are down to 20mph around the Northallerton turn off due to snow laying on the carriageway.

TWO cars have gone into a snowdrift between Inkerman and Cornsay Colliery, near Tow Law, County Durham. Four people are believed to be involved though there are no details on injuries.
