TWO women will push themselves to the limit when they tackle an annual “tough guy” contest tomorrow (Saturday, January 26).
Sarah Stephenson and Josie Pointon will go up against an eight-mile assault course in Perton, Staffordshire, which is said to be the world’s hardest endurance test.
The pair will crawl through water-filled tunnels and up 40ft nets, run over fire and through barbed wire and risk electric shocks.
They will even have to sign a ‘death disclaimer’ before taking part.
The sponsored challenge is all to raise money for poor children in Zambia.
The two women are part of the Zambia Ideals project, which sees UK university students and staff teach and coach sport in the southern African country.
Ms Stephenson, of Yarm, Teesside, is staff and student development manager at Northumbria University, while Ms Pointon is the university’s student president.
Ms Pointon said: “I always like to challenge myself but I enjoy some extreme sports activities like bungee jumping or skydiving and would happily do them in my spare time.
“I knew that people would only sponsor me if it was something I’d find really difficult to do. Tough Guy ticks that box.”
