BABY animals that would usually be soaking up the sunshine in their native Africa have been frolicking in the snow at a zoo near Pickering, North Yorkshire.

Velvet the zebra and Brad the giraffe braved the elements at Flamingo Land Zoo just two weeks after being born – but while Velvet took to his snowy enclosure with delight, Brad preferred to stay wrapped up with a red scarf tied around his neck.

Zoo manager Ross Snipp said: “We called the zebra Velvet because his dad’s called Guinness and we named Brad after Bradford City because of their historic league cup run.

“It’s not the best time of year to be born but we can’t always help these kind of things.”
