Funding blow for Darlington Arts Centre plan (From The Northern Echo)

Does Darlington need another hotel! IF any open up in town it wants to be a travelodge or summat. This building is a waste of time and would make lovely flats. The council want to spend there money on the civic thearte!

It isn't their money its our money and the sooner they stop wasting it on cicuses the better. If you want a theatre or golf course or arts centre or leisure centre then you pay for it. .

The greed of you people is amazing. You want some of the poorest in society to pay for your entertainment.

i totally agree...stats show only 5 % of residents ever visit an arts centre in their own towns...this is a disgraceful waste of tax payers money...
that's why you don-t see many being built due to the lack of visitors, and profit ...people want things for nowt these days....but times are hard for all, so pay your own way...
if i or my family want to go somewhere like that we pay for it...
people should stop wanting everything for nothing.....bunch of whingers!!!!!

The Arts Centre is a good centre, diversified more than others and attracts a good bar trade especially in the summer. Its not in need for anything else and it "missing out"... please! the Northern Echo make a mountain out of a Mole Hill. I entered a competition the other day and didn't win..... cue the Echo!

A "commercial" venue that wants 2m startup courtesy of the taxpayer..Flog the building DCC and use the profits to keep the poor council tax payer from having to stump up a 2% increase this year.
An increase by the way that will see by the Councils own admission less services and amenities provision.
Stop the unwanted 1.5m pound wheelie bin project and stop pretending to consult on town centre projects when you know you dont have the finances to do anything..

Some good points there.

Please note everyone, the Arts Centre is CLOSED. It's costing you nothing and probably cost you very little before as rents from the 6th Form, Theatre Companies and Arts Grants paid £3800 per week towards the £4000 per week the council told us it cost to run. Therefore it only needed to make an extra £200 per week to break even. Did they not make any money at all out of the bar and the ticket sales. It was certainly expensive to hire a room there. Everyone who used the building paid for it's use, except a few things like the Community Carnival and other council community events. These have all stopped now and many people have missed out. It was a good venue and now it's gone.

As for The Civic, the council have tried to flog it, but it's listed, so no one wants it. So what do we do ? How about making it pay ? Most times that I go, it's well attended, even though it's another of Darlington's crumbling assets. It can be closed, but then it will cost the town loads of money to keep it safe and secure and it will become just another boarded up pigeon infested rat hole. It should be a major asset to the town.

Nothing in the town is taking money off the people that need it. Lets sell off all our heritage shall we ? And when that still fails to reduce the rates, where do we go then. With the potential in this town it's crying shame that there is not enough talent, or imagination in the council to actually make a profit. They are in a tail spin to oblivion and they are pulling us all down with them. They have moaned about the Government Cuts for so long they have lost the plot. Some people don't have a good word to say about them. I have lots.

If you want to complain about how The Poorest In Society are losing out the why don't you complain about the number of unelected, overpaid and over rated execs who are bleeding us white ? Vote for an elected mayor.

so when are you standing for Council then Spy Boy? There's a by-election coming up go on show em how it's done!
If you think an elected mayor is the answer not exactly been a success in Hartlepool or the Boro?
