AN Indian restaurant has raised £6,000 for a much-loved charity over the past few years.

Spice Lounge, in Fore Bondgate, Bishop Auckland, has supported Butterwick Hospice since 2010 with curry and quiz nights which have attracted up to 100 guests each time.

Manager Issy Islam first opened his restaurant in 2008 and approached charities and community groups within Bishop Auckland to offer his support.

He said: “After we opened Spice Lounge, we got lots of great support from customers in and around Bishop Auckland.

“We thought it would be nice to give back to the community and support charities in the area, and we have been working with Butterwick Hospice since 2010.”

Butterwick Hospice fundraiser Julie Nisbet, said: “Issy and his staff come in to work on their one day off to support the charity nights and always make their guests welcome.

“Since 2010, we’ve raised £6000 with Spice Lounge’s help, and the evenings are getting busier with each event. I can’t thank them enough.”

The Butterwick Hospice curry and quiz nights take place three times a year. The next event takes place on Monday, January 21, from 7pm.

To book tickets, which cost £15, or find out about future curry nights, contact Mrs Nisbet on 01388-603003 or email julienisbet@butterwick.org.uk. Alternatively, speak to Mr Islam.
