AN animal charity is on the hunt for foster carers to look after abandoned cats and kittens in County Durham.

Pat Kingsnorth, the county's co-ordinator for Blue Cross, said all animal welfare groups were being inundated with unwanted cats.

“We have a number of foster carers who take in cats on behalf of Blue Cross, but we are looking for more,” said Ms Kingsnorth, who runs the Ark on the Edge rescue centre at Woodland, Teesdale.

“It would involve looking after cats and kittens for as long as it takes to rehome them.”

She added: “Unfortunately, I just don't have enough space for them all at the rescue centre – we can't physically cram them all in.”

Anyone who would like to foster a cat on behalf of Blue Cross should contact Ms Kingsnorth at the Ark on the Edge on 01833-630505.
