THE organisers of a North-East sports injuries symposium have announced that Paralympian Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson is the keynote speaker at this year's event.

The Teesside Sports Injuries Symposium, which is now becoming a regular event for health professionals, is to be held in Durham County Cricket Ground on 31 January and 1 February.

Open to doctors, nurses and therapists who specialise in sports injury, the event will look at various aspects of injury and how they affect the sportsman or women.

The symposium is being organised by three of North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust's senior doctors - consultant radiologist Peddada Raju, consultant in accident and emergency Dougal Southward and consultant orthopaedic surgeon Sanjeev Anand.

Dr Raju said: "We are delighted to be once again the focus of sports medicine and we are very much looking forward to hearing from a range of speakers who are internationally renowned experts in their areas of specialism.
