STUDENTS from one of the region’s universities will have a special interest in Hollywood’s glitzy Oscars ceremony next month.
A film involving one of their recent colleagues has been nominated for the Academy Award for best animated short.
Lizzie Bull, who graduated from York St John University in 2010 was production manager on the 10-minute stop-motion short Head Over Heels.
Senior lecturer in film and TV production Dr Steve Rawle said: “Lizzie showed great promise while she was at York St John University.
“She always came across as a dedicated, critical and enthusiastic filmmaker who took the best from all parts of her joint honours in film studies and film and television production.
“We are all looking forward to the Oscars now and would be thrilled if Head Over Heels won an Academy Award, Lizzie really deserves it. ”
The film received its world premiere in 2012 at the Cannes Film Festival and since then has won prizes at Anima Mundi, Heartland Film Festival, and Austin Film Festival.
