POLICE have turned to the public for help in tracking down a man wanted for a vicious attempted street robbery last month.

Stuart David Atkinson, 49, of Lower Dunsforth near Boroughbridge, North Yorkshire, is being sought in connection with an attempted robbery in Harrogate.

A 47-year-old local man sustained cuts and bruising to his face when he was attacked on St Andrew’s Avenue by a man demanding money on December 2, a Sunday.

Officers have been making extensive enquiries to trace Stuart Atkinson since the incident and are now appealing to the public to help their search.

Atkinson is described as around 6ft tall, with a medium build, blue eyes and a shaved head.

Temporary Chief Inspector Sarah Sanderson said: “If anyone knows where Stuart Atkinson is please contact the police or Crimestoppers as soon as possible.

“We need to speak to him in connection with a serious offence and will keep looking until we find him.

“If you are helping Mr Atkinson to evade the police, then you are committing an offence and face being arrested yourself.”
