Severe weather warning as snow arrives in region

A SEVERE weather warning was in place last night (SUNDAY) as a band of sleet and snow moved across the region.

The Met Office warned of further snowfalls moving eastwards across the region today (MONDAY), causing possible disruption to travellers.

Up to 10cm of snow is predicted to fall on higher areas above 300m.

Even lower levels above 150m are expected to see between 2cm and 5cm, although forecasters said it would not settle everywhere.

In the Yorkshire Dales, members of Swaledale Mountain Rescue Team were called out yesterday evening (Sunday) to rescue a motorist stranded in snow near Hawes, however the motorists was freed before they arrived.

The snowfalls are expected to continue until at least Thursday.
