PANTO stars are preparing for the latest production of Aladdin.

Vin Welch, father of Loose Women and Celebrity Big Brother star, Denise Welch, from Ebchester, will appear as Widow Twanky and Consett pantomime stalwart Hughie Malone is cast as the Genie.

The CBS show runs at the Consett Empire Theatre from Monday, January 21 to Saturday, January 21, at 7pm.

Director Virginia Aken said: “These two performers are real troopers and it is great for our young actors to have the opportunity to work with them both, it is going to be a great show.

“Both are well renowned in the local area for their performances and always get a great reception from the audience.”

The cast will feature Luke Henderson as Aladdin, Philip Richardson as Wishee Washee and Paul Stafford as Abanazar and Amy Hocking as the Spirit of the Ring. Mother and daughter, Vicki Harrop and Lynn Johnson, play the Chinese Policemen, providing the comedy capers and good old fashioned fun and frolics.

Mrs Aken added: “This much loved children’s traditional story is given a typical pantomime twist which will leave you with a big smile as you leave the theatre. “This ‘full of fun’ pantomime includes songs, drama and comedy which will be a real treat for all the family.

“Don’t miss this chance to see a refreshing new adaptation of Aladdin brought to life by a dedicated and talented community cast.”
