TWO men have been charged after police uncovered drugs worth up to £7m stashed at a house in North Yorkshire.

Aaron Nesbitt, 26, from Billingham and Kirk Anderson, 35, from Stockton, appeared before Teesside Magistrates this morning (Friday, January 11) facing charges related to the supply of class A and B drugs.

The drugs haul was discovered at an address in Topcliffe, near Thirsk on Wednesday (January 9) following a raid by the North East Regional Organised Crime Unit (ROCU).

The unit is a specialised team of detectives set up by the chief constables of Durham, Cleveland and Northumbria.

They recovered about 30kg of heroin and about 400kg of amphetamine. The drugs are estimated to have a street value of between £6m and £7m.

Detective Superintendent Tim Walker, from ROCU, said: "This seizure has stopped a significant amount of controlled drugs from potentially causing harm in our communities and those farther afield.

"We have many more enquiries to make in this large scale investigation. The NE ROCU are committed to protecting this part of the country from damaging and dangerous criminality."

Mr Nesbitt and Mr Anderson were both charged with possession with intent to supply class A and B drugs and conspiracy to supply class A and B drugs.

They did not enter a plea and were remanded in custody until January 17.
