A TAKE-AWAY has been closed following serious breaches of hygiene rules.
Mouse activity, food at risk of contamination and very poor standards of cleanliness were found at Mario’s on Redcar high street.
The premises were closed down by council Food Safety Officers after an inspection on Tuesday January 8.
A court order has been made forcing the take-away to remain closed until Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council is satisfied that it no longer presents a serious health risk.
The owner of the business can apply for the order to be lifted once the premises have been cleaned and disinfected, allowing food to be prepared safely.
Councillor Steven Goldswain, Cabinet Member for Community Protection, said: “Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council will always act quickly to close unsafe premises like these where the health of our residents is at risk.”
