TALENTED young actors are wanted for a production of The Sound of Music.

The revival of the much-loved Rodgers and Hammerstein musical is presented by Endellion Theatre in association with Spennymoor Stage and Song and members of the Royal Northern College of Music.

It will be at the Gala Theatre, in Durham City, from September 17 to 22.

Rehearsals will take place on August 26 and September 1 and then on the weekends of September 7-8 and 14-15.

Director Jonathan Walker Kane is looking for youngsters to play the Von Trapp children and to fill the roles of Maria and the Mother Abbess.

Open auditions will be held at the Gala on Sunday, January 27.

Mr Walker Kane said: “We will be looking for children who can act and sing with confidence as their contribution to the success of The Sound of Music is vital.

“They will be working alongside some of the North’s finest non-professional actors as well as the orchestra of the Royal Northern College of Music so this really will be a wonderful opportunity for them to take part in a major revival of a much-loved show.

“At the same time we’re also happy to see anybody who wants to audition for the show’s two main female roles. These are extremely demanding parts and will require a high level of both vocal and dramatic skill.”
