A PROTECTED local landmark in North Yorkshire is in line for a major restoration.
The Grade I listed Ionic Temple at Duncombe Park, near Helmsley, was built in the 18th century and designed by Sir John Vanbrugh, the renowned English architect and dramatist.
Now, the North York Moors National Park Authority is seeking grants from English Heritage, the Country Houses Foundation, the Cleary Fund and the Yorkshire Garden Trust for the scheme, which is likely to cost in the region of £200,000.
Jake Duncombe, who runs the family estate, said the temple, set in the parkland of the stately home, had suffered deterioration of the stonework over many years.
