A FURNITURE retailer is giving unsigned musicians from across the North-East the chance to have their songs played in its stores.

Furniture Village, which has stores in Stockton, Darlington and Gateshead, hopes to find the next Adele or One Direction and play their material in its 40 branches nationwide.

Each act or artist whose music is selected for performance in-store will be showcased on the website, with links to their own sites and information for new fans.

Bands and performers will also have their musical contributions prioritised for playing within Furniture Village branches close to their home towns or performance bases.

Charlie Harrison, the chain’s director of marketing, said: “We are emerging from the festive period when the nation has had its fill of Christmas musical classics, and it seemed an excellent opportunity to revolutionise the traditional role of in-store music, and offer audio exposure for emerging talents to a new and significant market.

“This might just provide a big break for the next Adele, JLS, or budding Bacharach.”
