THE recent mild temperatures will give way to a Scandinavian cold front this weekend.
Freezing conditions and snow showers are predicted to hit the region from tonight (Wednesday) onwards, with temperatures remaining low for the rest of the week and into next week.
Forecasters from the Meteogroup said it would feel cold compared to recent days, with rain falling as snow over high ground in the North-East and North Yorkshire on Friday.
Further snow showers could hit the region on Saturday.
Staff at Cobra rock salt suppliers in Middlesbrough were today (Wednesday) checking supplies using GPS equipment ahead of the coldsnap.
