POLICE are investigating a sneak-in burglary in Consett .

A house in Redmire Drive, was targeted in the early hours of Wednesday, January 2.

During the burglary a cash card was stolen and used to withdraw a substantial amount of money at a nearby hole-in-the wall machine.

The victim, a woman in her late 50s, has recently suffered bereavement.

PC Karen Myers said: “Not only is she trying to come to terms with the loss of a loved one but is now also struggling to deal with a callous intrusion into her home and the loss of personal belongings.

“I would appeal to anyone with information about this incident or the person responsible to contact me at Consett via the non-emergency number 101, or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800-555-111.

“If you are suspicious of someone who inexplicably has a large sum of money available to them we'd like to hear from you.”
