TWO shooting enthusiasts who fell into a swollen beck after a bridge collapsed have been released from hospital.
A 65-year-old man from the York area, who was airlifted to James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough, after suffering a head injury at High Askew, near Cropton on the North York Moors on Thursday, has made a good recovery after falling into Hartoft Beck.
A man in his 50s, who was also hurt when the pair attending a pheasant shoot fell from the metal footbridge onto a rock in the river, has been discharged from Scarborough Hospital.
Michael Wood, who organised the shoot, said he had inspected other bridges in the area with a structural expert to check their safety and they were all structurally sound, but he was keeping them closed as a precautionary measure.
He said it appeared the bridge had collapsed as the beck’s banks had become sodden after heavy rain.
