Rail delays near Darlington after pony hit by train

RAIL services between Darlington and Bishop Auckland have been disrupted after a pony was struck by a train and killed. The incident happened on the stretch of rail line near Whessoe Road, in Darlington, shortly after 6pm (Sunday, January 6). Bus replacement services have been put in place for the next hour to allow the scene to be cleared. A police spokeswoman said no-one was hurt in the incident.
