TWO arrests have been made after a man was shot in the back in a pub car park.
At just after 4pm today police received a report of the shooting at the Six Mile Bridge Inn, North Tyneside.
It is believed the man, aged 54, was getting out of his car when he was shot in the back by the two men, who then drove off in a white van towards the A19.
Police believe the shooting is linked to organised crime and have not ruled out further arrests.
A Northumbria Police spokesman said: "Initial enquiries suggest this was not a random incident.
"A police operation is under way to apprehend those responsible and patrols will be increased in the area to reassure the local community.
"At present his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening."
The police are appealing for anyone with information about the attack to contact them on the non emergenct 101 number or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
