A GOLF club is celebrating after enjoying success on and off the fairway over the past 12 months.
Bishop Auckland Golf Club captains George Courtney and Barbara Veal have raised more than £18,000 for the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation.
However, the hard work on the green has paid off just as much with the men’s, ladies and junior teams all tasting playing success.
The men are Teesside Union Division One champions and Durham County Golf Union Handicap champions while the ladies have been promoted to division one after winning the Durham County Ladies’ Golf Association Division Two.
Wayne Hewitt is now the Teesside Union Match Play champion and Darryn (CORR) Veal is the Durham County Second Division Stroke Play champion.
Flow Bunce is the County Veterans winner and has also been awarded the Burns/Kinsella Trophy.
The juniors are champions in the Durham County Junior Golf Association (southern league) and Briony Bayles and Jessica Hall have both been selected for the under 13 England Golf Union coaching squad.
Mr Courtney said: “This has probably been one of our most successful years. It is absolutely brilliant.
“It has been a good overall club effort and it has been terrific being involved as captains.”
