POLICE have arrested a man following a road rage-style assault on another motorist on a busy road junction near a city centre.
It follows a New Year’s Day incident on New Durham Road roundabout, at the A690 junction with Tunstall Road, in Sunderland.
A motorist was seen to pull up and leave his car, before approaching the vehicle behind, punching the driver in the face.
The 34-year-old victim received hospital treatment for a facial injury.
Northumbria Police said a 27-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault and has been bailed following questioning.
Witnesses to the incident, at 2pm on Tuesday (January 1), are asked to ring the force’s non-emergency number, and ask for extension 69191.
Alternatively, callers can ring the Crimestoppers’ freephone line, anonymously, via 0800-555111.
