A FOOTBALL fan accused of making a racist monkey gesture at a Premier League player has been bailed as police enquiries continue.
Liam Jones, 21, of Hendon, Sunderland, was arrested after pictures showed him gesturing towards West Bromwich Albion’s Romelu Lukaku after the Belgian striker had scored his team’s third goal in a 4-2 win against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Saturday, November 24.
Mr Jones claimed he had been doing a chicken dance and said he was devastated people might think he was racist.
Sunderland AFC banned Mr Jones from attending matches until the outcome of the police enquiries.
Mr Jones answered bail today (Wednesday, January 2) and was re-bailed as the investigation continues.
