12:19am Monday 31st December 2012 in News
FLOOD warnings have been issued on a number of rivers across North Yorkshire as heavy rain continued through the evening.
Within the last hour, the Environment Agency has issued a flood warning for the River Swale at Brompton-on-Swale Caravan Park.
The Agency says the river level has reached 1.70 metres at Grinton Bridge and is rising rapidly, while at Lowenthwaite Bridge, in Richmond, it has reached 1.34 metres.
A spokesman for the Agency said: "We expect additional rainfall in to Monday morning. We will continue to monitor the situation closely".
A flood warning has also been issued for the River Ouse at York.
Lesser flood alerts have been issued for dozens of other waterways across the region, including the River Tees at Croft and Yarm.
