A SECOND man has tonight (Thursday, December 27) been charged with the murder of 20-year-old Andrew Lucas of Washington.

Mr Lucas, originally from Hebburn, South Tyneside, died after he was found stabbed in the street near his Warkworth Close home on Saturday, November 3.

Police said tonight that Paul Andrew Mallin, 35, of Dunstanburgh Close, Washington, has been charged with murder and will appear before Sunderland magistrates in the morning (Friday, December 28).

Paramedics were called to Warkworth Close, in the Oxclose area of Washington, at about 3.40am after reports of an attack.

Mr Lucas was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Gateshead, with multiple stab wounds but was declared dead on arrival.

Mark Spalding, 45, of no fixed address, has already appeared at Newcastle Crown Court accused of Mr Lucas' murder and was remanded in custody.

A trial date has been listed for April 15, next year, and is expected to last seven days.
