TWINS who were injured in a four-car crash on a busy dual carriageway are recovering in hospital.

The seven-year-old boy and girl were flown separately to hospital after the accident on the A174 near Yearby outside Redcar at 10.15am on Boxing Day.

Cleveland Police said the boy was in a comfortable and stable condition having suffered a broken leg, collarbone and ribs.

The girl suffered cuts to her head and was also in a stable condition at the James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough.

The children were being driven in a Ford Mondeo after reportedly watching a traditional Boxing Day dip in the North Sea at Redcar.

Two men in an Audi escaped with bruising and whiplash and remain in a comfortable condition in the same hospital. Two other vehicles were also involved in the accident.

Witnesses are asked to call Cleveland and Durham Specialist Operations Unit on 101, quoting reference 230130.
