PEOPLE are being warned to stock up on medication ahead of Christmas.

With GP surgeries closed for two days over the festive period, health experts are encouraging people to be prepared.

Dr James Gossow, Senior Medical Advisor for NHS Tees said: “People need to stock up on everything that they may need over the Christmas period from paracetamol to indigestion remedies as well as making sure they have picked up any repeat prescriptions from their pharmacy.”

All GP surgeries in the Teesside area will be closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day but walk-in centres will remain open.

The walk-in centres can be accessed for treatment for minor illnesses and injuries. For urgent medical care outside of normal GP hours, contact 0300 1238151.

Experts say Accident and Emergency departments and calls to 999 should only be resorted to when people are badly injured or show signs of serious illness, such as choking, chest pain or blood loss.
