THERE was a touch of festive cheer in a hospice tonight (Thursday December 20) as every child received a Christmas gift courtesy of a generous benefactor.
Bootcamp organiser Rob Westerburg spent all the proceeds from a festive fitness programme on treating children at the Butterwick Hospice in Stockton.
Together with several of his bootcamp charges, Mr Westerburg gathered and wrapped £2,000 of age-appropriate gifts before hand delivering them to the hospice.
He said: “I did it hoping I could put a smile on their faces. These kids are terminally ill and I wanted to do something to make them happy. Presents are not the meaning of Christmas but it is about giving. It’s not about take, take, take. I wanted to give something back to the community.”
A spokeswoman from Butterwick Hospice said: “It is a tremendous amount to raise and we are extremely grateful to Mr Westerburg for the effort he has gone to to raise it.”
The £2,000 was raised in around two weeks thanks to people signing up for Forte Fitness and Bootcamp’s festive fitness programme.
The 12-day online plan involved participants committing to training for at least half-an-hour a day and giving up processed food, wheat, alcohol and most dairy products.
They received online support, recipes, shopping lists, meal planners and exercise routines.
