HAIRDRESSING students Amy Bailey and Ellie Chapman have been sampling life in the salon – and helping more of their classmates enjoy a taste of the workplace.

The Year 12 Teesdale School students have been working alongside apprentice Brogan Lee at the Zhoo salon, in Galgate, Barnard Castle, as part of full-time two year course under the watchful eye of salon proprietor Vikki Parkin.

They showcased their skills at a specially arranged photoshoot, with art student Aaron North operating the camera, while key stage three students Shauna McKie and Jasmin Williams gained modelling experience.

Teesdale School co-principal Simon Maguire said: “There is currently a national debate about the value of vocational education.

“That value was clearly demonstrated in this photoshoot where all of the students involved, whether in sixth form or key stage three, worked exceptionally hard together in the workplace to produce outstanding results under real life conditions.”

Vikki added: “Vocational hands-on experience is the best way to learn any trade and these students are the proof.

“It is a pleasure to be part of their development and I hope they become amazing hairdressers of the future.”
