Men charged over derby day damage at Sunderland's Stadium of Light
TWO men have been charged over an incident during October’s Sunderland v Newcastle derby match.
David Richardson, 47, of Inglewood Close Blyth and David Richardson, 26, of Deneview Drive in Cowpen, Blyth, face allegations of criminal damage and throwing missiles at a designated football match.
It follows an incident when seats were damaged and thrown in the Upper North Stand of the Stadium of Light.
The pair will appear in court on Monday December 31.
Chief Superintendent Steve Neill said: "While the vast majority of fans were well behaved on the day and enjoyed the match, there was some incidents of disorder.
"Since then we have been carrying out extensive enquiries to trace anyone suspected of being involved in any such incidents.
“Following enquiries two people have been arrested and subsequently charged with offences and are going through the court process."
