MOVE over The Commitments – when it comes to soul, there's no beating a group of Teesdale youngsters.

The 18-strong Teesdale Soul Band are about to launch their first CD, called It Happened.

The band draws its members from Teesdale School, Barnard Castle, and recorded tracks for their CD at The Hub, where it will be unveiled at a special gig next Thursday, December 13.

Singer Isobel Tallentire said the band tackled everything from Aretha Franklin to Amy Winehouse.

“We are really looking forward to next Thursday's gig and then after that, we have another at school on December 19.”

Band members range in age from 11-year-old Dan Gaskin to Craig Torano, 17, and are planning an exciting 2013, the highlight of which they hope will be a summer tour and spot on the bill at the Larmer Tree Festival, near Salisbury.

The Teesdale Soul Band is part of a music project which runs six days a week at The Hub, Shaw Bank, Barnard Castle.
