A BOXING club's show earlier this month has been described as one of the best in its 21 year history.

A packed house at Spennymoor Leisure Centre enjoyed Spennymoor Boxing Academy's show on Saturday, November 10, which featured 14 bouts.

It got off to a flying start for the home team with wins Michael Jaques and Luke Thornton, which was leveled after narrow defeats for Kieran Lindsay and Billy Canmore.

Regan Eddy, Elliot Stonehouse, Jake Daley and Alan Comby made the score 6-2 in favour of Spennymoor at the interval.

In the senior bouts Ashton Jones, Ian Saint, Liam Taylor and Gary Dodds recorded wins and Aaron Camsell showed grit and determination but lost to Andy Spowart, of North Shields.

Top of the bill and boxing for Spennymoor for the first time in four years since joining the RAF was Adam Watson, who after three pulsating rounds was beaten by Bobby Begg, of Lambton Street, Sunderland, by only one point on each of the judge's scorecards.

There was a standing ovation from the crowd for all boxers but mainly for best junior boxer, Luke Thornton, and best senior, Adam Watson.

Head coach, Robert Ellis, said he was proud of all the boxers and coaches thanked supporters who said it was one of the best events the club has ever hosted.
