A WOMAN was dragged along a station platform when her arm became trapped in train doors.

The un-named victim was not seriously hurt in the incident, which happened in April on the Tyne and Wear Metro system at Jarrow station.

She managed to get free and fell to the ground when a passenger opened the doors using an emergency release.

She had tried to board the train as the doors were closing before departure. The Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) investigated and found that a fault prevented the doors from re-opening.

The driver failed to notice the trapped passenger who had to run alongside the train for 12 metres.

Metro owner Nexus said passenger safety was its "top priority".

DB Regio Tyne and Wear, the company that operates Metro trains, said drivers had been reminded to always check doors before departing.
