Man suffers spinal injuries after car hits tree near Blackhall Colliery

A MAN had to be freed from his car after it struck a tree.

The accident happened around 9pm tonight (Tuesday, December 4) on the coast road leading to Horden from Blackhall Colliery, County Durham.

Fire crews from Peterlee, ambulance and police were called to the scene. Cutting equipment was needed to free the victim from the wreckage and he was then taken to the University Hospital of North Tees suffering from spinal injuries.
