Youngster's rugby club seeks new coaches to take training

A RUGBY club is to hold an open meeting as it seeks coaches to help train the young players for the 2013 season.

The Durham Tigers Rugby League club hopes to enter teams into leagues from under-12s through to 16-plus age groups.

The club is based in the Shildon Sunnydale Leisure Centre and it also hopes to recruit a girls’ team for the new season.

The Durham Tigers need to rapidly recruit coaches to help deal with the demand of the new season.

A meeting is to be held on Monday (December 6) at the leisure centre, in Shildon, from 7pm to discuss the issue.

Phil Selby, club secretary, said: “We recognise that we need high quality coaches in the professional game and in community clubs such as the Tigers.

“This is so that young players can gain skills and experience and get have their talent nurtured as poor coaching at this level ruins potential.

“The Tigers are determined that all players at the club will be coached correctly from the very beginning so, if they wish they can progress to the professional game.”

There is training on Tuesdays between 6.30pm and 8pm for the 16-plus age group team. The under-14s team trains on Tuesdays from 6pm to 7.30pm.

On Saturdays from 10am to 11.30am there is training for the club’s under-nine, under-11s and under-13s teams.

A touch rugby session is held every Friday between 6pm and 7.30pm at its Shildon base too.
