A family have fun sledging near Nenthead in Cumbria after heavy snow showers covered much of northern England, turning areas into picture postcard scenes, with even more snow forecast for tonight into Monday morning
POLICE are warning drivers to take extra care after overnight snow across much of the North-East and North Yorkshire.
Several centimetres of snow fell during the night. Although many main roads are open in towns the situation is much worse in rural areas. In some places freezing fog has made driving conditions even more tricky.
The snow is expected to turn to rain later this morning - leading to a rapid thaw.
One lane is blocked due to snow on the A66 Eastbound from the Great Burdon Roundabout, Darlington, to A135 Yarm Road, Stockton.
Pesspool Lane is closed due to ice between A182 (Easington) and Blossomfield Way (Haswell).
Police urged drivers to take extra care and allow more time for their commute to work.
So far there are no details of school closures. However, Darlington Council's website is currently down and the authority is updating parents via its Facebook and Twitter feeds.
Any school closures will be added to this story.
