WINTER WARMING: About 65,000 homes in the North-East have been fitted with extra insulation during 2012, according to the Energy Saving Trust. But the latest statistics show that 42 per cent of properties in the region still have under-insulated lofts and 303,000 have not got cavity wall insulation. Many could be eligible for grants to tackle heat-loss problems with their properties- reducing carbon emissions and saving money- through the Carbon Emission Reduction Target (CERT) scheme which ends on December 31. It will be superseded by Green Deal which will let householders pay for energy-efficiency improvements using savings they will make on their energy bills.
