A NEW course teaching teenagers the basics of the music business is starting in Crook.

Aimed at young people aged between 16 and 18-years-old who are not in education or employment, the 15-week course offers training in areas including music production, performance, urban art, DJing and event management as well as teamwork, communication and personal presentation.

Trainees will also be able to seek help and support to write their CV, search out job opportunities and perfect their interview skills.

The sessions, which will take place at the town’s Royal Corner, are being supported by Durham County Council and Three Towns AAP and are being run through The Sage Gateshead’s CoMusica Foundation Learning programme.

Diane Maughan, Durham County Council’s safer neighbourhoods coordinator, said: “This is a really exciting opportunity for young people to improve their creative skills and also boost their chances of entering training or employment.

“Everyone who enrols will get their own personal learning plan and all the support they need to make the most of the course.”

Sessions are three days a week. Drop-in sessions offering a taster of the help available also run at Royal Corner every Wednesday evening from 5pm to 7pm.
