ART inspired by the modernist architecture of a new town will go on show.
An Experiment in Total Environment is a collection of work that will take a fresh look at the distinctive 1950s and 1960s architecture of Peterlee, County Durham.
Artist Toby Paterson is behind most of the work going on display at the Durham Light Infantry Museum, in Durham City, from Saturday until March 31.
Most of his pieces are inspired by the work of town designer Victor Pasmore.
He said: “For more than a decade now, I have been fascinated by the innovative yet flawed legacy of the uniquely daring piece of post-war design that is Peterlee “Shifts in politics, industry and society that have impacted on the lives of Peterlee’s population is visually manifest in the visual fabric of the town, making it an intriguing place for anyone interested in how the places we live end up looking the way they do.”
Reliefs, paintings and prints from Victor Pasmore, who created the town’s Apollo Pavilion, will also feature.
A piece has also been painted onto a gallery walls by a group of young artists.
